About Eagle Truck Company #3
Eagle Hose Company #3, now known as Eagle Truck Company #3, was founded in 1922 to meet the growing demand for fire protection in North Arlington. Organized by Elbert W. Baker, who became its first president, the company began with charter members including George Shippee, Herbert Schaffer, Joseph Tuty Jr., and many others. From its earliest days, Eagle Hose pushed for improvements to the borough’s fire alarm system, successfully securing a modern system in 1923 with support from the other companies and Mayor Barnard. Though fundraising for equipment was a constant challenge, members devoted themselves to community events and even personal loans to keep the company strong. Their determination quickly earned the confidence of local residents, and new members such as John B. O’Hara and Thomas Reilly, both of whom later became leaders in the department, helped establish Eagle Hose Company #3 as a vital part of North Arlington’s fire service tradition. Today, Eagle Truck Company #3 stands at 30 members strong.
