About Schuyler Engine Company #2
Schuyler Engine Company #2 was founded in 1916 by a group of local men led by George A. Eckardt, whose Meadow Brook Dairy farm was located just off Schuyler Avenue. Recognizing the fire risk to his community, he convened a founding committee in his farmhouse and was unanimously elected the first chief. The group, led by Eckardt, raised $300.00, enough to build their own firehouse. The original station was built on the west side of Schuyler Avenue, near what is now today’s North Arlington Volunteer EMS building. In the late 1990’s, Schuyler Engine Company #2 moved across the street onto the corner of Silkowski Road and Schuyler Avenue. Today, members of Eckardt’s own lineage are represented through the membership of Schuyler’s. Matthew Piscal, great grand-son and current Deputy Chief, Jeffrey Nichols, great grand-son and former Chief, and Marissa Piscal, great-granddaughter and current Captain of Schuyler continue to carry out their family’s legacy in serving the town of North Arlington. Today, Schuyler Engine Company #2 stands at 20 members strong.
